The Only Good Thing On The Internet Is Ariana Grande’s Video For “Breathin”

The internet is mostly bad, but sometimes (sometimes!) it contains something good. With The Only Good Thing On The Internet, we are celebrating those rare good things.

Ariana Grande recently released a video for one of the best songs off of her new album, Sweetener, “Breathin.” It is a glorious three minutes and 18 seconds of her pet pig, Piggy Smalls, walking on a furry surface and sniffing her surroundings, the camera capturing her every move. And that’s it—that’s all the video consists of. There's no accompanying upside-down camera work or visions of Grande climbing up the sides of towering buildings. The singer doesn’t even make an appearance. It’s just a homemade video of her new pig (or chicken, depending on who you ask) going on a mundane adventure.

It's a simple video, yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't perfect or that, in its simplicity, it isn't meaningful. Grande shared earlier this year that the song is about her anxiety. “It's like the worst feeling in the whole world,” she said while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It's a song about that feeling, I was having lots of [anxiety attacks]. We were in the studio, we were writing, and I was like, 'Ugh can't breathe.' And they were like, 'We're going to write this song.' And I was like, 'Okay, I still can't breathe, but we'll write it.'” She went on to add: “We made this song. I can kind of breathe now, so we’re good. Progress.”

Piggy Smalls helps Grande breathe a little better, too. She shared on Twitter that Piggy Smalls is an “emotional support pig,” and it’s been proven that pigs, and pets in general, can be therapeutic. By documenting Smalls’ cuteness, the star is helping to spread the sense of peace that her pig has brought into her life. It’s one of the few pure and innocent things that can be found online.

Grande told a disappointed fan that she’s releasing another “official” music video for the track later on. “Thought this one would make u laugh while u wait for the real one bc I took a break to take care of myself for a lil while,” she explained. She has that right. The video is a way for us to take care of ourselves as well. And it's definitely the only good thing on the internet.
