On June 5th, Microsoft and the London College of Fashion had their Future of Fashion Incubator Showcase which is the culmination of their efforts to bring fashion and high-technology together. Students from the London College of Fashion’s Business School, School of Design & Technology and Media & Communication programs came together to participate in six multi-disciplinary groups. Each student came up with a concept along with Incubator Ambassadors Charli Cohen, Hayley Elsaesser, Sofia Barrattieri, Natasha Franck and Bia Bezamat to produce prototypes that will increase service and product efficiency in Fashion.

Products unveiled at the event were an MR store for a multi-brand luxury experience, smart tagging service for brands to track the product lifecycle of their garments and an A.I driven smart personalized advertising service. These items really caused a lot of excitement at the event and someday soon will be implemented on a grand scale.

Collaborating with Microsoft to empower our students with emerging technologies across courses through this project is incredibly exciting.” says Matthew Drinkwater,Head of Fashion Innovation Agency at London College of Fashion. “Fusing business ideas with mixed reality, artificial intelligence and machine learning, ultimately, will allow a pathway to creating the digital designer business of the future.”

Maruschka Loubser, Senior Global Marketing Manager, Microsoft was also at the event and he had this to say about the incubator-“It has been amazing to partner with London College of Fashion and their Fashion Innovation Agency, to push the boundaries of how technology can really drive impact and foster alternative creative thinking in fashion. The future of the industry is enrolled here, and we want to empower them to make a purposeful difference —not just now, but also when they enter the industry.”-

In the future I hope to see more programs like these that teaches students and in extension the Fashion industry how to utilize current technological advantages for their products and services. Fashion as an industry has been cool to implementing technological advances in their products and processes and can no longer afford to do so. Hopefully the Microsoft X London College of Fashion can change this.
